ADULT RESCUE STEPS

 CHOKING PROCEDURES, 2008

(over 12 years old)

RESPONSIVE ADULT     

UNRESPONSIVE ADULT                    

               If the Adult is actively coughing, just watch the Adult closely.  

DO NOT INTERFERE!  

If Adult is no longer coughing or exchanging air begin by giving abdominal thrusts.  (Fist clasp just above naval covered by the other hand)        

Should the Adult become unconscious     (lifeless and limp) ease victim to floor and:

Open Airway, Look for Foreign object in mouth, Listen for breathing.  Try to give 2 breaths.

 

 

    Thrust inward and upward with fists until  object becomes dislodged or victim becomes unconscious. 

  If air will not go in, BEGIN CPR, and repeat steps for CPR. Look into the mouth every time before Breathing for object, remove if seen, continue CPR
