INFANT CHOKING PROCEDURES

CONSCIOUS INFANT

 UNCONSCIOUS INFANT

 If the Infant is actively coughing, just watch the Infant closely. DO NOT INTERFERE! If Infant is no longer coughing or exchanging air begin by giving 5 Back Blows. (With heel of 1hand between shoulder blades) Should the Infant become unconscious (lifeless and limp) ease victim to a hard flat surface,

 Open Airway, Look for Foreign object in mouth Listen for breathing, Try to give 2 breaths,

 

Continue to give 5 back blows followed with 5 chest thrusts (similar to CPR) and repeat as needed. If air will not go in, Give 5 Back Blows followed with 5 chest thrust, then open airway, never sweep the mouth for object,  if you see the object try to remove it with fingers, give 2 breaths, Repeat if necessary.
